Kahiau: A Tennis Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization.  It was founded in 1966 as the Hawaii Tennis Patrons Association with the purpose of supporting youth tennis in Hawaii.

In 2005 the Hawaii Tennis Patrons Association changed its name to Kahiau: A Tennis Foundation and amended its articles of incorporation to expand its purpose to promote the growth of tennis in Hawaii to youth, adults and special populations.

Also in 2005, Kahiau became a partner and the fundraising arm of the United States Tennis Association Hawaii Pacific Section.  The USTA HPS was founded in 1973 and is one of 17 Sections of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) headquartered in White Plains, New York.
